Settings;

Amp: bass around 10 o'clock, mids and treble: between 3 and 5 o'clock. Clean channel, no reverb, no bright switch

The ds2 was always set at 3 o'clock for level, 11 o'clock for tone and full for distortion. Also set on mode 1.

The big muff was at 1 o'clock for volume, 12 o'clock for tone and 1 o'clock for sustain I think.

Polychorus:

Scentless Apprentice: Feedback 12 o'clock, mode - double track, sweep filter on, tune/delay full, width 1 o'clock, sweep rate 1 o'clock

Radio Friendly Unit Shifter: Feedback 3 o'clock, mode - chorus, sweep filter on, tune/delay 7 o'clock (off), width 10 o'clock, sweep rate 10 o'clock

In this video I attempted to recreate Kurt Cobain’s guitar tone from when he recorded In Utero in February 1993.
I try to keep the sound authentic by using gear as similar to what Kurt used as I could find, but also within reasonable budget. My research for the gear primarily comes from http://www.kurtsequipment.com/, I highly recommend the site!

Here is a list of gear I used:

Fender Jaguar with Dimarzio humbuckers like Kurt’s (my guitar is not actually a Kurt Cobain signature guitar, but it has the same specs where it counts.)
Fender Hot Rod Deluxe amplifier, the closest thing I have to a Fender Twin Reverb amp.
Boss DS-2 Turbo Distortion Pedal. This is the key ingredient for my tone in this video. Kurt used a tech 21 sansamp as his main distortion in this era but at the time my sansamp was broken. However the ds-2 was also used on the album.
EHX nano Big Muff. Used for the HSB solo.
EHX Polychorus. Used for Scentless Apprentice and RFUS. Ideally I would use an original polychorus (but good luck finding one where I live) but the new ones work just as well!
My Ibanez steel string acoustic.
Samson Meteor mic (I know, I need an SM57, money is tight right now as a uni student…)
