An autopsy has ruled that 63-year-old Ramesh Lallbeharry of Hassanali Trace South, Lower Barrackpore, did not die from a fall from a coconut tree, contradicting the initial account given to police and hospital staff by his relatives.

The post-mortem examination was conducted on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at the Forensic Science Centre by forensic pathologist Dr. Parthasarathi Pramanik, in the presence of investigators.

The body was identified by the deceased’s wife, Nimmi Lalbeharry.
According to the findings, Lallbeharry suffered severe trauma to the chest and head, including multiple broken ribs, injuries which Dr. Pramanik stated were not consistent with a fall from a tree.

Instead, the injuries pointed to multiple blunt-force trauma caused by excessive force, possibly inflicted with a blunt object.
The post-mortem certificate lists the cause of death as shock due to haemorrhage, polytrauma, and multiple blunt-force injuries, with coronary atherosclerosis noted as a contributing condition. The manner of death has been classified as a homicide.

Police said the events leading up to Lallbeharry’s death began around 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, while he was at home consuming alcohol with his wife, son, and other relatives.
An argument reportedly broke out between Lallbeharry and his son, Brandon Lalbeharry, also known as Tony, a 41-year-old labourer who lived at the same address.

In the initial report made to police, the deceased’s wife, son, and other relatives claimed that Lallbeharry went to the back of the premises and fell from a coconut tree, after which he was found injured beneath it.

However, that account has now been seriously undermined by the autopsy findings.

Despite his worsening condition—marked by vomiting and severe pain—Lallbeharry was only taken to the San Fernando General Hospital on Saturday, January 3, 2026, where he was admitted to Ward 7.

He later succumbed to his injuries around 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2026.

A formal report was made at the Barrackpore Police Station the following day, prompting investigators to visit the scene, record statements, and initiate forensic examinations.

Crime Watch host Ian Alleyne, who began investigating the matter shortly after the incident, has stated that his early inquiries revealed that Lallbeharry was savagely attacked by his son following an altercation over a cigarette, with other relatives present at the time.

Tony also beat other relatives, including his mother around the same time.

When Alleyne first visited the family home, relatives reportedly questioned him about how he obtained that information, while continuing to maintain that the injuries resulted from a fall. Alleyne has since stood by his findings, which have now been reinforced by the post-mortem results.

Brandon Lalbeharry has been named as the suspect by police in the ongoing homicide investigation. He is alleged to have attacked his father with a pellet gun, resulting in the fatal injuries.
