The Weeknd has always worn his 80s influences on his sleeve, but for this cover of "In The Night," I really wanted to push that cinematic, high-stakes energy to the limit. I took the original’s dark pop roots and reshaped them into a driving Outrun anthem—think high-speed chases through a rain-slicked metropolis under purple neon lights.
I focused on layering aggressive analogue drums with those classic pulsing basslines to capture the frantic, racing heartbeat of the lyrics. It’s my tribute to Abel’s ability to mix tragic stories with massive melodies. Hope you guys enjoy this trip back to 1987. 🌃🏎️
