In the closing message of the Walking in Covenant series, Pastor Josh Gerard explores how God brought His people full circle through the events of Genesis 46–50.

Why would God send His chosen people into Egypt—a pagan nation that despised shepherds? Scripture shows that this separation actually protected them. Pharaoh kept Israel set apart, allowing them to grow into a nation under God’s sovereign hand.

Pastor Josh highlights the first time God is called a Shepherd in Scripture (Genesis 48:15), reminding us that like sheep, we all go astray (Isaiah 53:6). Still, God invites us to trust Him, walk with Him, and truly know Him.

The message also traces how the tribes of Israel were shaped by the actions of their ancestors: Reuben’s failure, Simeon and Levi’s violence, and Judah’s transformation from selfishness to sacrificial leadership. Judah’s growth foreshadows the coming Eternal King, Jesus, who fulfills and transcends earthly kingship.

Every event in Jacob’s life was woven into God’s overarching plan. As Romans 11:22–12:1 urges, we’re called to respond to God’s mercy by offering ourselves fully to Him.

God is faithful from beginning to end, and He always brings His people full circle.
