Описание: Video abstract for the paper published in Developmental Science, "Baby FaceTime: Can Toddlers Learn From Online Video Chat?," authored by Lauren J. Myers, assistant professor of psychology at Lafayette College, and her student research assistants (Rachel B. Lewitt, Renee E. Gallo, Nicole M. Maselli). They evaluated 1- to 2-year-old children’s learning from video chat by manipulating whether an on-screen partner was live or prerecorded. Children ages 17-25 months learned social information (e.g., recognized someone they had previously only ‘met’ via video-chat) and cognitive information (e.g. learned new words and patterns) from video chat only when the partner had responded to them in real time. This work shows that video chat’s social contingency makes learning possible for children under 2 years old.
