Positioned above the Kia Sonet in the local market, the Syros shares its boxy design language with larger models like the EV9. Measuring 3,995 millimeters in length, the Syros is considerably smaller than Kia’s electric sport utility vehicles, with a full meter difference compared to the EV9. The front design is particularly eye-catching, with vertical headlights placed at the edges, drawing comparisons to Kia’s Tasman truck. From the side, the look is equally distinctive, featuring pronounced plastic cladding around the wheel arches and a sharp, abrupt angle in the rear-quarter glass.

At the back, the Syros continues its unconventional aesthetic with lower-mounted vertical taillights and a set of L-shaped lights near the rear glass. Silver accents and two-tone wheels, available in sizes up to 17 inches, add to the crossover’s quirky character. Higher trims even offer a dual panoramic sunroof.

The interior, in contrast, is refreshingly practical and high-tech. Nearly 30 inches of screen space dominate the dashboard, including a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a similarly sized infotainment screen, paired with a smaller five-inch display for climate controls. Kia thoughtfully includes physical buttons for commonly used functions.

Under the hood, buyers have two engine choices. A turbocharged 1.0-liter gasoline engine delivers 118 horsepower and 127 pound-feet of torque, paired with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic. Alternatively, a 1.5-liter diesel engine generates 114 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque, offered with a manual or a torque-converter automatic transmission. A fully electric version is planned for the future.

Despite its compact size, the Syros does not skimp on features. Ventilated front and rear seats, wireless smartphone connectivity, ambient lighting, and a premium Harman Kardon sound system are among its highlights. Safety features include six airbags, a 360-degree camera, and 16 advanced driver aids.
