Bangladesh umpire Sharfuddoula Saikat is currently officiating in the ODI series between India and New Zealand. During the first ODI on Sunday, January 11 at the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara, Saikat served as the third umpire. His presence, however, has raised questions amid Bangladesh’s recent stance on security concerns in India. Earlier, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) wrote two letters to the International Cricket Council (ICC) seeking to shift Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup matches out of India. The BCB cited security concerns, a move that came in the wake of the controversy surrounding Mustafizur Rahman’s exclusion from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) squad for the IPL 2026.
