Israel has launched massive strikes against the southern suburbs of Beirut just hours after its military ordered the entire population of the area – more than 500,000 people – to evacuate immediately.
The Israel Defense Forces had told all residents of the area to “save your lives and evacuate your homes immediately”, prompting an exodus of the Lebanese capital’s population in scenes of panic, before its warplanes launched strikes against what it claimed were Hezbollah targets in the area. The area covered by the order included several hospitals and government ministries. The strikes marked a significant escalation in Israel’s growing offensive in Lebanon, which began after Hezbollah fired missiles and drones into Israel on Monday.

The U.S. announced the names of four soldiers who were killed by an Iranian drone on Sunday. The leader of the U.S. Central Command said more than 50,000 troops, 200 fighters, two aircraft carriers and bombers were participating in the fighting.
A large black plume of smoke could be seen in the southern suburbs of the Lebanese capital Beirut on Wednesday morning, according to footage from Reuters news agency. It comes after the Israeli military issued an “urgent warning” for residents to evacuate in the city’s southern suburb of Dahieh, particularly the Haret Hreik neighborhood.

The US embassy in Kuwait City is reportedly urging people not to come to the embassy and to take cover. It is also saying there is a continuing threat of missile and drone attacks over Kuwait. It comes after smoke was seen rising from the US embassy and while Iran launched another wave of strikes on Gulf cities and on Israel.
Explosions have been heard in Jerusalem and across the Gulf cities of Dubai, Doha and Manama as Tehran pressed into a third day of strikes against Israel and Gulf neighbours in response to the US and Israel’s attacks.
