ZTE Chairman: ZTE Strongly Opposes "Unfair," "Unreasonable" Punishment

Описание: Yin Yimin, chairman of Chinese tech firm ZTE, said Friday that his company strongly opposes the U.S. government's ban on its access to American suppliers, calling the punishment "unfair" and "unreasonable."

The statement came after the U.S. Department of Commerce banned ZTE earlier this week from buying any U.S. technology for seven years.

"Such a sanction would immediately paralyze the company, will directly affect its 80,000 employees and their families, as well as the company's responsibility to perform long-term service to hundreds of millions of terminal consumers including tens of millions of U.S. consumers. It will also cause major harm to the interest of the company's 300,000 shareholders, and directly harm its responsibilities and obligations to thousands of cooperative partners and suppliers including U.S. companies," said Yin at a press conference in the city of Shenzhen, where the company is based.

The U.S. Department of Commerce said that ZTE had lied about violating American sanctions against the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and Iran.

Yin said that ZTE will not give up resolving the situation through dialog and communications. He said that ZTE is determined to safeguard its legitimate rights and interests.

"I strongly oppose the decision made by the U.S. Department of Commerce. We firmly oppose any unfair and unreasonable punishment. We are still more opposed to politicizing any trade issue. The U.S. government is boundlessly magnifying small issues, so as to bring about a huge adverse impact on our company. The company pays close attention to this, and will solve the problem through all means as permitted by law," said Yin.
