Shot Down Before Impact: Indian Army Displays Pakistan’s Kamikaze Drone on Vijay Diwas

Описание: Ahead of the 54th Vijay Diwas, the Indian Army made a powerful statement by displaying a Turkish-made YIHA kamikaze drone used by Pakistan during Operation Sindoor. The single-use attack drone was intercepted and destroyed by Indian air defence units near Amritsar before it could strike its intended target in Jalandhar. Launched from Lahore International Airport, the drone was operating at an altitude of around two thousand metres and was loaded with nearly ten kilograms of explosives, designed to detonate on impact.

The display took place as India prepared to commemorate Vijay Diwas on December 16, marking the historic 1971 victory over Pakistan that resulted in the creation of Bangladesh. Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, was India’s response to the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that killed twenty-six people, mostly tourists. After four days of military exchanges, Pakistan approached India’s DGMO seeking a ceasefire, which came into effect on May 10.

The presence of the drone exhibit during Vijay Diwas events underscored India’s evolving security challenges and its readiness to counter modern threats, even as top leaders, including President Droupadi Murmu and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, attended commemorative events.
