The All Nagaland Adhoc Teachers’ Group (2015 batch), comprising 1,166 teachers, entered the third day of their agitation on Thursday, intensifying their demand for service regularisation.
Addressing the media at Secretariat Junction, Kohima, Graduate Teacher from Zunheboto, Lhovito Sheqi, said that the 2015 batch became eligible for regularisation based on their appointments, most of which date back to December 2012.
He stated that the group began a sit-in protest at NSF Solidarity Park on February 4, holding silent demonstrations and internal meetings. The teachers have already held two rounds of talks with the authorities, but without any positive outcome.
Following an unproductive meeting with the Chairman of the Screening Committee, the group resolved to intensify their agitation through peaceful means by organising a silent procession. However, he said an “unfortunate incident” occurred, which leaders attributed to frustration built up over 14 to 15 years of service without regularisation.
Recalling earlier agitations in 2018 and 2022, Sheqi noted that a High-Powered Committee (HPC) agreement signed in 2022 had promised committee formation within 15 days, submission of recommendations within six months, and resolution by December 2023. He said these commitments remain unfulfilled even after 2024 and 2025.
He further stated that the teachers had cleared suitability tests, had their documents verified, and were placed on scale pay, yet regularisation has not materialised. The group also alleged administrative delays and “blame shifting” between departments over documentation, while other sectors benefited from related government orders.
Sheqi added that the teachers intend to continue their peaceful protest while awaiting a response from the state government.
