For generations Christians have heard many complicated explanations about the end times. Teachings about secret raptures, multiple resurrections, and detailed prophetic timelines have filled books, conferences, and sermons. But what if the Bible presents something much simpler?
In this episode we begin with the words of a simple woman standing beside the grave of her brother. When Jesus told Martha that Lazarus would rise again, she responded with a statement that reveals what the Jewish people already understood from the Scriptures: “I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”
From that moment we explore every place in the New Testament where Jesus speaks about the last day. What did He mean by this phrase? What did the Jewish people expect? And how does this understanding connect directly to the resurrection of believers and the second coming of Christ?
By examining the words of Jesus and the apostles in their plain meaning, we discover that the hope of the believer has always been centered on one climactic moment in God’s plan: the appearing of Christ, the resurrection of the dead, and the final judgment of the world. The Bible calls that moment the last day.
