Описание: We are presenting Senegal, a French speaking country of 15 million people in the far west of Africa. It has an influence far beyond its size, with a dynamic film, fashion, and hip-hop scene. However, these are facades to the real truth; HUNGER and POVERTY in Senegal.

Hunger is one of the main crises that Senegal suffers. They live out their own traumatic and resentful life. In their journey, they struggle to find ends meet. So, it makes it harder to find food. They are incapable of having a proper meal in a day. Being used to starving is common among the Senegalese. As a result, most people, especially children, have malnutrition. Food insecurity is mainly caused by the fluctuating food prices and unpredictable harvests that happen every year and these unpredictable factors have caused hundreds of thousands to experience hunger in Senegal.

Besides hunger, the Senegalese is also suffering from poverty despite their high currency. More than one third of the population lives below the poverty line, and 75% of families suffers from chronic poverty, thus resulting in unemployment mainly among the youths. Young people either end up unemployed or in informal jobs where wages are low. In 2020, the estimated unemployment rate in Senegal was 7.1 percent.

Fortunately, in the face of malnutrition and rural poverty, a body called UNICEF in their reach to the most disadvantaged children and adolescents has collaborated with the World Food Programme (WFP) to stop poverty and hunger in Senegal. WFP provides nutritious meals for 294,500 school children in areas with high levels of food and insecurity, with additional activities to promote attendance by girls, as well as good nutrition practices. Food is produced through local producers, which stimulates agricultural production and the local economy.

Today, Senegalese people now have hopes for their future and thus helping them towards the TOP 2 of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG); No Poverty and Zero Hunger.
