The amazing gorge of Patsos (some people also call it the gorge of Agios Antonios) is located about 30 minutes from Rethymno and 8 km from the Monastery of Arkadi, in the the area of Amari. Walking inside the canyon up to one point is very easy, as a well designated path has been formed by the forest service ending at its narrowest point with a unique waterfall falling into a cave. From there the gorge gets narrow and forms several small waterfalls and the descent to the lake of Potami requires considerable attention, especially in winter and spring. Another trail ascends to the watchtower of avifauna above the river.
Patsos Gorge has a small unique church which is as the church at the rock. It is very interesting to see how the people leave their small papers with the wishes that they have to the saint and that they faithful have placed them in the the rock around the church.
