Josef Schütz was convicted by a German court in 2022 for complicity in the murders of more than 3,500 prisoners while serving as a guard at Sachsenhausen concentration camp during World War II. He denied the allegations. Because he died before his appeal process was concluded, the conviction did not become legally final under German law.
