The Karate you see in the Olympics isn’t what the masters practised 200 years ago. We used cutting-edge science to find out why.
For centuries, the original "Te"—the lethal self-defense art of Okinawa—was hidden in secret scrolls like the Bubishi. But time, moisture, and history erased the ink. The deadly moves were sanitized for school children in the 1900s, turning the "Chiang Nan" form into the safe "Pinan" dance we see today.
We decided to fix that.
In this video, we use Multispectral Imaging (MSI) to blast ancient manuscripts with UV and Infrared light, revealing the invisible chemical layers of the original ink. Then, we feed those recovered diagrams into OpenPose AI to map the biomechanics and calculate the lethal torque of the lost moves.
What we found changes history.
In this video:
• The Great Filter: How Itosu Anko removed the "dangerous" moves to make Karate safe for schools.
• The Tech: Using UV and IR light to read invisible ink on the Bubishi.
• The AI Reconstruction: Using OpenPose to turn 2D drawings into 3D biomechanical models.
• The Reveal: We perform the reconstructed Chiang Nan kata—restoring the grappling and joint locks removed by modern sport.
Sources & Research: This reconstruction relies on the "HAPV" (Habitual Acts of Physical Violence) theory, historical analysis of the Bubishi, and static biomechanical modeling of ancient combat postures.
