We had a wonderful time during our stay in Moab Valley, Utah. We had the chance to meet up with my cousin Cary and his family so we jumped at the opportunity. Cary, Emily and the kids moved to Washington state about 4 years ago so it's not every day we get to see each other. Wickham and Cates were also pretty little when they moved so it was so cool to be able to get to know each of them. This was also the first trip it sunk-in to Mason that he was now "Uncle Mason" which was pretty cool.
June in Moab is incredibly hot; being a person that loves warm weather it was actually too hot to comfortably camp this time of year being a blazing 102 during the day and often staying around 80 at night. Even the shade was hot. Thankfully Cary & Emily had gotten an AirBnB that we enjoyed hanging out in the afternoons and joining them in the evenings for dinner. Cates and Wickham love living in Washington and are now used to 60 degree weather, rainy days and cloud cover so coming to Utah for the summer was a drastic contrast of cloudless skies, sun and heat!
Arches National Park was nothing short of stunning. Driving in you zig-zag up the red rock mountain and then the land opens up to these staggering giant rocks that tower over you as the road winds between them. There are literally arches everywhere. You can see them from the road, but I would definitely recommend downloading the map before entering the park since you lose service pretty quickly. Also, if arrive prior to 8 am you can just drive right in and beat the crowds. While both parks are amazing, for me Arches is the place not to miss if you have to choose one. We also recommend returning at the end of the day for sunset.
