Ukraine Crisis Media Center held a discussion on the topic "Energy sustainability of Ukraine in conditions of total war: priorities and key tasks." The participants of the event focused on three key issues, which are critically important for ensuring the country's energy security in wartime conditions.
Strategic goals and urgent tasks: is there a real dilemma?
The panelists discussed whether there is a real dilemma between long-term strategic goals and challenges that need to be addressed immediately. To achieve energy sustainability, it is necessary to find a balance between these two aspects, because ignoring one of them can lead to serious consequences.
International aid: plans and priorities for the restoration and development of generating capacities.
The discussion participants expressed their opinions, emphasizing the importance of coordinating foreign partners’ actions with the Ukrainian government. In particular, they discussed the readiness of the international community to provide support in restoring destroyed energy facilities and to invest in developing the new infrastructures, more resilient to external influences.
State responsibility or self-organization of citizens: how to respond to the risks of the winter period?
The discussion participants focused on the joint responsibility aspect. The state should provide general conditions and support, while citizens should be ready for self-organization and active participation in solving energy problems at the local level.
