India's first manned ocean mission 'Samudrayan' was launched here on Friday by Union Minister Jitendra Singh and with this the nation joined an elite club of nations having such underwater vehicles for carrying out subsea activities. The nation has made huge progress in science and technology and when an Indian goes up into space as part of the Gaganyaan programme, another would dive deep into the ocean, the Minister said.
The Minister tweeted,"Launched India's First Manned Ocean Mission Samudrayan at Chennai. India joins elite club of select nations USA, Russia, Japan,France & China having such underwater vehicles.A new chapter opens to explore ocean resources for drinking water, clean energy & blue economy."

In his launch address at the National Institute of Ocean Technology here, Singh said the mission does not only increase the scientific capacity but also gives the nation a sense of esteem that "we are doing something which is no less than any other country of the world."
"What we are actually contributing is not only confined to the realms of scientific work, it is actually contributing to building of India's national esteem," he said at the event that also coincided with the institution's foundation day celebrations.

চন্দ্রযান, মঙ্গলযানের পর এ বার সমুদ্রযান। মহাকাশের পর এ বার অতল সমুদ্র। লক্ষ্য হল, সমুদ্রের ৬০০০ মিটার গভীরে মানুষ পাঠানো। কিছুটা সাবমেরিনের মতো যে যানটিতে করে এই অভিযান হবে, তার নাম রাখা হয়েছে ‘মৎস্য ৬০০০’। এর আগে আমেরিকা, রাশিয়া, জাপান, ফ্রান্স ও চিন এই ধরনের গভীর সমুদ্রাভিযান করেছে। সফল হলে ভারতও ঢুকে পড়বে সেই তালিকায়।

প্রকৃতির রহস্য ভেদ করতে নতুন অভিযান শুরু করলো ভারত, এই অভিযান হবে ‘মৎস্য ৬০০০’ নামক যানে। বিজ্ঞানীদের প্রাথমিক পরিকল্পনা অনুযায়ী, তিন জন মানুষ নিয়ে সমুদ্রের গভীরে যাবে মৎস্য ৬০০০। যানটিতে থাকবে অত্যাধুনিক প্রযুক্তির সেন্সর ও যন্ত্রপাতি। থাকবে সমুদ্রতলে খননকার্য চালানোর ব্যবস্থাও। সমুদ্রের গভীরে জলের চাপ বেশি। সেই চাপ সামলানোও বড় চ্যালেঞ্জ প্রযুক্তিবিদদের কাছে। ১২ ঘণ্টা জলের তলায় থাকতে পারবে যানটি। তবে আপৎকালীন পরিস্থিতিতে ৯৬ ঘণ্টা পর্যন্ত জলের নীচে থাকতে পারবে এই যান। কেন্দ্রের ভূ-বিজ্ঞান মন্ত্রকের তত্ত্বাবধানে ইসরো, আইআইটি মাদ্রাজ এবং ডিআরডিও-র বিজ্ঞানীরা হাত মিলিয়ে তৈরি করেছেন মৎস্য় ৬০০০-এর নকশা। ২০২০-২১ থেকে ২০২৫-২৬ সালের মধ্যে এই ধরনের গভীর সমুদ্রাভিযান চালানোর জন্য মোট ৪০৭৭ কোটি টাকা বরাদ্দ করেছে কেন্দ্র। ২০২৪ সাল পর্যন্ত গবেষণার প্রথম ধাপের জন্য বরাদ্দ হয়েছে ২৮২৩.৪ কোটি টাকা।

পৃথিবীর উপরিতলের প্রায় ৭০ শতাংশই সমুদ্র। অথচ গভীর সমুদ্রের ৯৫ শতাংশই এখনও মানুষের অজানা। বিশেষ করে ভারতে ৭৫১৭ কিলোমিটার দীর্ঘ সমুদ্র উপকূল রয়েছে। তাই এই ধরনের অভিযান শুধু প্রযুক্তিগত দিক থেকে নয়, অর্থনীতির দিক থেকেও গুরুত্বপূর্ণ হতে পারে বলে ধারণা বিজ্ঞানীদের।
