I tested these 3d printed "shotgun" shells for my Rare Arms AR-15. These hold 6 BB's each. I was using .25g BB's and a decent amount flew pretty far but a couple fall pretty short. I think I'll try .2g BB's to see if I can get flatter groupings. Still, it's more than usable for CQB and performs much better than the stock shells that had super large groupings with only a single BB.
I find it hilarious how these shells are much lighter than the stock shells so they fly further when they eject. Unfortunately these shells don't work in full auto for some reason. Full auto consistently breaks the rim of the shells. Luckily they come out part way so the jams are easy to clear. From the slow mo I can see I have a bit of bolt bounce. I wonder if that is the reason my rims are breaking?
Sadly my Smoke Suppressor unit broke and the one I bought from Silo still hasn't shipped yet. Hopefully that and the Holosun Thermal Sight arrive close to each other.
I plan on torturing my printer and to get a large batch of these shells to use in some games and record some clips. A batch of 300 shells takes 3 days to print so it will take some time to stockpile.
I would also like to figure out why my shells are failing in full auto. These are printed in PLA which is easy to print and cheap. I don't really want to switch materials if I don't have to. If during testing I figure it out and can solve it by changing the design of the shell I will start uploading the files so other people can make their own.
