Today I’m sharing with you a recipe for fried cabbage pies. These pies are delicious and fragrant, with a cabbage filling that everybody will love. You can enjoy them for dinner or as a snack.

00:24 Ingredients for dough:
3 cups (about 464g) all-purpose flour
1 tsp. (5g) instant dry yeast
1 tsp. (5g) salt
1 tbsp. (20g) white sugar
1 ¼ cup (260ml) warm water
¼ cup (50ml) sunflower oil or any oil you like

14oz. (about 400g) cabbage
1 small onion (about 33g)
1 small carrot (about 45g)
½ tsp. turmeric
salt and pepper to taste
3 tsp. oil for frying
2 cups (about 300ml) oil for frying pies
Instructions:
1. Combine the dry ingredients: 3 cups of all-purpose flour, 1 tsp. of instant dry yeast, ½ tsp. of salt and 1 tbsp. of sugar. Then add 1 ¼ cup of warm water and ¼ cup. of sunflower oil or any oil you like.
2. Use a stand mixer, a hand mixer, or knead the dough with your hands. Knead until you get a soft, slightly sticky dough. Lightly oil a bowl, place the dough inside, cover, and let it rest in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
3. For filling: chop 1 small onion, 1 small carrot and 14 oz. of cabbage.
4. Heat a pan with 3 tbsp. of sunflower oil. Add the onion and carrot and cook over medium heat about 3 minutes. Then add the chopped cabbage, ¼ tsp. of turmeric and salt and pepper to taste. Stir well, cover with a lid, and cook over low heat about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Once the filling is ready, transfer it to a bowl and let it cool down.
5. After 1 hour, the dough has rested. Divide the dough into 13 pieces. Roll out each piece with a rolling pin or flatten with your hands. Place about 2 tsp. of filling in the center and pinch the edges to seal each pie.
6. Heat a pan with 2 cups of oil. Gently place the pies into the oil, pinched side down, and fry until golden brown on both sides.
7. When they’re ready, drain them on a paper towel. Repeat this process with the remaining pies.
8. Once fried, let them cool slightly. You can serve warm or cold.
