Border Villages Remain Devoid of Civilians Despite Ceasefire
BANTEAY MEANCHEY – Previously lively business districts in Banteay Meanchey are now completely empty of civilians.
Many families from Prey Chan, Chouk Chey, and the Boeung Trakoun area remain unable to return home due to Thai-installed barriers and ongoing security threats along the border.
The ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, made on Dec. 27, was meant to renew hope for displaced civilians to go back home. However, many remain at displacement sites, as the situation has turned out to be more severe than expected.
Even with support and donations, displaced civilians still hope to return, reunite with loved ones, and rebuild their lives someday.
