Описание: World Health Organization (WHO) director-general Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said on Thursday that the organization will be holding a global online advocacy event on mental health during the pandemic in October.

The event will take place on World Mental Health Day with sports and music personalities, as well as world leaders talking about why they are investing in the mental health of the people they serve.

Tedros said that COVID-19 caused disruption in mental health services around the world, which worsened the impact of the pandemic on people.

"Mental health was already a neglected health issue globally," he added.

WHO, United for Global Mental Health and the World Federation for Mental Health called for massive scale-up investments in mental health amid the pandemic.

The director-general also said he plans to establish an International Health Regulations (IHR) review committee to advise him on whether any changes to the IHR may be necessary, "to ensure this powerful tool of international law is as effective as possible."

A total of 24 million cases of COVID-19 around the world have been reported to the WHO, with many countries facing second waves of infection.
