On August 1, 2018, TDOT awarded the contract for the long-awaited I-440 Reconstruction Project. The $152.9 million project extends approximately 7.6 miles, from Interstate 40 to Interstate 24 in Davidson County, and includes removing substandard pavement and providing three lanes of travel in each direction. The planned improvements will also address congestion and improve safety along the entire corridor.
The I-440 Reconstruction Project was funded through the state's IMPROVE Act and expedited through the Design-Build project delivery method. Traditional construction will allow the interstate to remain open with lane closures in place for the duration of the project. The estimated completion date is August 2020.
