Описание: The Walkway Over the Hudson was originally a railroad bridge called the Poughkeepsie-Highland Railroad Bridge started in 1886 and completed in 1889. It was originally the southernmost freight crossing across the Hudson River and played a major role transporting raw materials, goods, passengers, and was also important during World War II. Over time, the bridge saw lower train traffic and maintenance was poor. A tie track fire occurred on May 8, 1974 compromising the structure and future use. After sitting there for decades with no plans to repair it for rail use, there were plans to demolish it. However in the 1990s, a non-profit organization, Walkway Over the Hudson, partnered with the State of New York, the federal government, neighboring municipalities, private corporations and other not for profit groups to convert it into a pedestrian bridge. The Walkway Over the Hudson opened to the public on October 3, 2009, celebrating the 400th anniversary of Henry Hudson's expedition traveling up the Hudson River. At the time of its opening, it was the longest, elevated pedestrian bridge in the world with a length of 6,768 ft (1.28 miles) at a max height of 212 feet above the Hudson River. As of 2024, it is the 2nd longest, elevated pedestrian bridge in the world when after being surpassed by the 7,974-foot (2,430 m) Mile Into the Wild Walkway in Keenesburg, Colorado, United States opened on October 2016.

Poughkeepsie is about 65 miles north of New York City. This is one of the last times to visit the fall foliage in Upstate New York. This video also remarks some of the history of its transformation, landmarks in the Poughkeepsie and Highlands area and walking.
