Chess is the best metaphor for REAL LIFE that I can think of that relates directly to the modern world. Do you have to think ahead in life? Yes, same in Chess. There are so many reasons to learn Chess and then apply these techniques into your daily life, especially at work, where patience is a key feature. Some phrases you will hear a lot on the Channel are to DEVELOP EARLY, the quicker you develop your financial life, the quicker you may retire. You have to avoid blundering along the way, i.e., gambling, drinking, debt, living beyond your paycheck, etc. This means, work or study and get a STEADY paycheck as early as the law provides in your country. Another key phrase you will hear is to get your pieces out into the playing field as quickly as you can. In life, you utilize your resources early, in order to better your position in life. Another key phrase you will hear is to DEVELOP A PLAN. In life, this is key. There are no substitutes for a good plan and even a poor plan is better than no plan at all in many cases. Just don't react to life, make plans and put them into action. Another key phrase you will hear is that sometimes you need TO ACT QUICKLY, no waiting around, In life, you get busy living or you get busy dying, seldom is there time to waste, this is true in Chess as well. Another key phrase is to GO AFTER THE KING. In real life, this a metaphor for achieving your personal goals. In the end, the only thing that matters is winning the game. In your world, what is your "win" for the game? Is it a car? Is it a big house? Is it early retirement? Is it a lot of money to buy products? My win was to not have to work and to retire and slow travel the world and see new places. For you, it will be different or maybe similar, who knows, but the point is to not lose sight of this goal of winning. In Chess it is VERY easy to lose sight of what you were trying to get done.
Another phrase you will hear on the Channel is "what VALUE am I getting out of this move." In real life, things you do and say should, in theory, add value to the overall picture of your life. Adding positive value, that is "getting a better position" in Chess is very important when making moves, and also in making "life moves".
Another is "am I safe and will this help me?". In real life, this corresponds to avoiding modern day situations and/or places where you are not safe (A Casino for example for me), and being there isn't helping you. Another thing Chess can teach you is PATIENCE which is lacking in modern new humans in many cases. Chess teaches us that once we make a LIFE MOVE, we CANNOT take it back, there is not going backwards, pawns do not move backwards, once you move a pawn careful; It gets one shot at success!!!
Chess teaches us the finality of the game. The game of life must end. It shows us that everything has a BEGINNING, A MIDDLE, AND an END. And you must accept the ending as best you can, by being a good sport and understanding that Chess indeed is just a game. As the game of Chess winds to an end, you often want to resign, don't you resign. Stay and lose. I have resigned so often because I didn't want to see the opponent's checkmate, I am guilty of this and you may even see that on the stream.
