East Arnhem Land | Gove Boat Club | Goanna Lagoon | Macassan Beach

Описание: In this episode, we continue our exploration of East Arnhem Land, starting from where we left off. Our first destination is the Gove Boat Club, which is perhaps the best spot to park and discover the wonders of East Arnhem Land. This is especially true if you're planning to journey up to Nhulunbuy with a large caravan. In Nhulunbuy, there are only two suitable locations to park a large van, as most campsites do not allow dual axle caravans (except for Cato). The Gove Boat Club, offering power and water, and the rear area of The Walkabout Lodge without power, are the only two van-friendly sites in Nhulunbuy.

Using the Gove Boat Club as our base, we make our way to Wathawuy, where we can enjoy swimming and camping at the Latram River and Goanna Lagoon. Wathawuy features a freshwater stream that winds through open eucalyptus forests and bushland. It's just a short 30-minute drive from Nhulunbuy, making it an excellent day trip destination and a refreshing spot to take a swim and cool off.

We managed to get the boat into the water but did not have much success on the fishing front, that being said the conditions weren’t great!

Lastly, we venture to Garanhan, also known as Macassan Beach. Although our original plan was to camp there, the windy weather had other plans for us, so we made it a day trip before returning home.

If you are heading up the Central Arnhem Road with a caravan, we recommend you make sure the below five things are checked off your list well before hitting the track.

1. Book your accommodation
a. Gove Boat Club:   / goveboatclub   or their new website (under development 2023) https://goveboatclub.com.au/ has power / water and is easily the best place to stay with a caravan in Gove.
b. Walkabout Lodge: https://walkaboutlodge.com.au/ if you cant get into the boat club, camping out the back (no power or water) but it is in the middle of town, good pub, but can get a bit rowdy.
2. Book your transit permit
a. Head over to https://www.nlc.org.au/apply-for-perm... and book for the days you intend to be on the Central Arnhem Road
3. Book your recreational permit
a. Head over to https://www.nlc.org.au/apply-for-perm... to book your permit for the time you are staying in East Arnhem Land (you need this to book camp sites!)
4. Book your camp sites (these book out early so don’t expect to get any of the good ones at the last minute as the locals will have already snapped them up)

5. Book your alcohol permit
