Bengaluru-based startup Sarla Aviation is pioneering the future of transportation with their innovative electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft, named Shunya.
Founded in 2024 by engineers Adrian Schmidt, Rakesh Gaonkar, and Shivam Chauhan, Sarla Aviation is committed to revolutionizing urban transit in India. Their mission is to provide affordable, efficient, and eco-friendly air mobility solutions to address challenges like traffic congestion and pollution in major cities.
Unveiled in January 2025 at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo in New Delhi, Shunya is designed to carry up to six passengers and a pilot, with a payload capacity of 680 kilograms. The aircraft boasts a flying range optimized for 20-30 km trips, with a maximum range of up to 160 km, and can reach speeds of up to 250 km/h. This design aims to transform hour-long commutes into minutes-long journeys, offering a practical solution for urban transportation.
