Got a pile of interview footage and no idea how to turn it into a story? Here's my exact 5-step process for interview editing — the same one I use for every documentary on this channel.

I'll be honest: editing interviews is my love-hate relationship with this job. It's slow, it's draining, and it's also where a documentary actually gets made. In this video I walk through the full process — from the first pass of listening to raw footage, to grouping content by subject, to adding B-roll and establishing shots that turn talking-head clips into something people actually want to watch.
I edit in DaVinci Resolve, but this isn't a software tutorial — the approach works whether you're cutting in Resolve, Premiere, or Final Cut. If you've been searching for interview editing ideas or just want a clearer process for your own interview-based content, this should help.

04:08 STEP 4: Edit each group individually
