Could this be a new whale species? Scientists on board a Sea Shepherd vessel believe it is. Three of these beaked whales were spotted off Mexico’s Pacific Coast.
At first researchers thought it was the endangered Perrin’s beaked whale, but when they got a closer look, they realized these whales looked different.Their teeth were further back, and they had different color patterns. Acoustic recordings revealed they even sounded different from Perrin’s.
