In this video, Red Dot Fitness shows you how to do the SSB Squat.
Coaching Cues:
Body Position: Feet shoulder width apart; keep eyes forward. Shoulder blades packed down; elbows locked in position
Grip: Firmly around SSB handles; palms facing midline.
Tip: The height of the arms in front will dictate the load placement in the movement, which will change torso angle. Higher elbows will mimic more of a front squat and upright torso, while lower elbows will mimic closer to a back squat and more horizontal torso. Whatever height is chosen, maintain arm position throughout.
Movement: Initiate by pushing hips back slightly, then bend at the knees. Ideally, knees should flex to a 90 degree angle minimum. Keep torso upright with neutral spine, and feet flat on the ground. Push through heels/midfoot to upright position, and repeat.
Stability: Brace core by slightly bringing ribs and pelvis together, drawing a straight line. Ensure to not over-extend the low back in the movement; keep shoulder blades packed down.
