Playing about with five 12x24 software 'sprites' in Advan BASIC, for the Atari 8 bit computer line. Yes, I know shifted chars are way faster, that isn't the point of this. I am working on a project that needs a single, large C64 moving sprite, where I won't have to worry with restoring the background. Yes, I know there are machine language routines to use in BASIC, that isn't the point of this, either.
Next versions will be in Fast Basic, by dsmc, and Action!, by OSS.
Yes, I know these aren't as good as real software sprites. Yes, I know these aren't pixel aligned - they are aligned on 4 pixel boundaries. Yes, I know these images suck. I threw this demo together in a few minutes and decided to screen record it :)
In the end, Advan BASIC will mow through these five images only 20% slower than compiled Turbo BASIC XL will do one. I may finish unrolling the loops and record that for comparison.
