Puffed and swollen DJI mavic pro batteries opened up to reduce swelling. DO NOT DO THIS YOURSELF!

I rode across country with my DJI Mavic 2 Pro packed in the panniers of my motorcycle. Typically that is a good thing, but not when it is 115 degrees out. All three lipo batteries puffed up that day. I didn't even fly, they were just cooking as I tried to get home. I let DJI know what happened and they told me since I was out of warranty I was out of luck. $500 would replace them. DJI Mavic 3 was rumored to be released soon and I preferred to save my money for that instead of the new batteries. That release has not yet happened, and I had to buy new batteries just to be safe anyway. I wanted to try an experiment though. If I were to cut away the plastic that was on the bottom of the pack, maybe that would release the tension forcing the pack to un-clip itself. These lithium polymer batteries had proven themselves to be flyable with only slight reduction in flight time from before. Since it was out of warranty, I gave it a go. Here are the results. After taking the cover off this pack, I again will advise against it for any reason if you also have a puffed or swollen lipo pack. There is no good reason to repeat this experiment. Good luck with your drone, and please fly safe! If your batteries pop out of the clips, the drone may fall from the sky causing untold damage. These are the same batteries as your DJI Mavic 2 Zoom, and Similar to your first generation DJI Mavic pro batteries. The DJI Mavic Air battery is also similar, as is the DJI Spark battery. IF IT'S PUFFED UP, REPLACE IT.


DJI, I am disappointed with your unwillingness to replace the packs as there are many parts of the world that are routinely this warm.
