Single-handed application is a good way to practice. A few tips and tricks:
-Set yourself up for success by pulling the red tab across your body instead of away from it. You have a better chance of getting solid initial tightness
-practice with gloves on if you wear them often
-focus on windlass placement so it is accessible
-for practice just turn the windlass once or twice, saying to yourself that you would turn until bleeding is controlled
-you may have to visualize the wound by exposing it to ensure bleeding is controlled
-reassess tourniquet tightness after any patient movement, or at least every 5 minutes for the first part of your assessment
-when should you record the time of placement? When you have the time take the time, do not let it interfere with other life-saving interventions
-always finish your tourniquet application by securing the tail!
-try not to cheat by using the injured limb, you likely won’t have full function
Remember to use training tourniquets and not your operational tourniquets. Don’t worry I do not one a single absurdly large left shoulder, it is the trainer by @trueclot
