The closing act of this year's 2022 Charlie Parker Jazz Festival featured the legendary Archie Shepp and Jason Moran featuring Grammy-Award winning vocalist Cecile Mclorin Salvant. The festival showcased three generations of the Black American Music tradition.

Archie and Jason have a live recording of their duo performances titled "Let My People Go" which was recorded and released right before the COVID-19 pandemic took root of the world. The album features the two playing standards which include "Lush Life", "Go Down Moses," and "Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child."

Mr. Shepp in a career spanning some six decades, he has been on the frontlines educating people on the rich traditions of Black American Music even studying in Africa. He's also made a career of pushing the envelope on Free Jazz, Avant-Garde, the Blues, and Spiritual Jazz recording and collaborating with the likes of John Coltrane, Pharaoh Sanders, Anthony Braxton, Cecil Taylor, Ornette Coleman, and Wadda Leo Smith.

Born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Archie moved to Philadelphia at ten years old. It was there where his next door neighbor and his best friend of over 70 years, NEA Jazz Master and bassist, Reggie Workman, would soak in the deep musical roots that were in the city.

In this very special edition of The Pace Report, you'll see highlights from Archie and Jason's performance at the 2022 Charlie Parker Festival featuring Cecile Mclorin Salvant. Also, special footage shot at GSI Studios in NYC featuring candid interviews with Mr. Shepp, Jason Moran, and the legendary Reggie Workman.
