To obtain your marriage license, you and your partner must first complete the marriage license application form. You can find this PDF document on www.weddingheaven.ca.

Print that form out and complete it and bring it with you to City Hall. Remember that the both of you need to bring two pieces of photo I.D and $140.00 to obtain the license. The marriage license has a 90-day expiry date, so please be mindful of when you apply for it and ensure that it will not be more that 90 days before your wedding day (I’ve seen it happen before…)

If your schedules are really busy, it’s ok if only one partner goes into city hall to apply for the license. Just make sure to bring your partners two pieces of photo I.D.

If your partner is not a Canadian citizen he/she must go in person with you and bring a Passport and other I.D to obtain the license. Please call service Ontario to obtain exact details 1-800-267-8097.

After your wedding ceremony the marriage license will be mailed for registration. It may take any where from 8- 12 weeks before the province of Ontario recognizes your marriage.
