صاحب الفضل الأكبر على التاريخ العراقي هو آشوربانيبال - احد ملوك الإمبراطورية الآشورية في العراق القديم.
حيث يعتبر من أكثر ملوك العراق القديم ثقافة وعلما، وينسب إليه الفضل الأكبر لإيصال أغلب التفاصيل التاريخية للعراق القديم التي وصلت لنا بسبب مكتبته العظيمة.
حيث عمد آشوربانيبال على جمع ألواح طينية عن التاريخ والعلوم والاكتشافات والاختراعات من مختلف الحضارات التي سبقته.
علما تعود بعضها الى عصر السومريين الاوائل وحتى فترة نهاية حكمهِ بعد ان جمع كل الكتب المكتوبة على الالواح الطينية في مكتبة ضخمة بقصره.

الجدارية هذه توثق الملك آشوربانيبال بشكله الحقيقي أثناء احدى حملات الصيد.
وهو يحمل القلم بجانب السلاح
ويعود تاريخها لحوالي 650 عام قبل الميلاد.
الجدارية الآن معروضة في المتحف البريطاني في لندن، المملكة المتحدة.

The greatest credit to Iraqi history is Ashurbanipal - one of the kings of the Assyrian Empire in ancient Iraq.
Where he is considered one of the most cultured and knowledgeable kings of ancient Iraq, and the greatest credit is attributed to him for communicating most of the historical details of ancient Iraq that reached us because of his great library.
As Ashurbanipal collected clay tablets on history, science, discoveries, and inventions from the various civilizations that preceded him.
Note that some of them date back to the era of the first Sumerians and until the end of his rule after he collected all the books written on clay tablets in a huge library in his palace.

This mural documents King Ashurbanipal in his true form during a hunting campaign.
He holds the pen next to the weapon
It dates back to about 650 BC.
The mural is now on display at the British Museum in London, UK.
