Trump’s statement came after what he described as a “productive ”  phone call with Putin, and is timed ahead of his scheduled meeting with Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelenskiy in Washington the next day.

In proposed talks, Trump aims to broker a peace deal amid rising calls for Ukraine War resolution,  though critics question whether such diplomacy can succeed without clearer commitments from Russia.
