How to decorate for Chinese New Year 🏮🧧✨

But let’s chat about the reason why we display red lanterns 🏮 and the legend behind it. There was said to be a divine bird that a hunter accidentally shot down that angered a god. In his wrath he ordered fire to the people on the last day of Chinese New Year.

However, the kind emperor’s daughter took pity and sent word to the people to warn them of this great fire. So in order to trick the god they put up red lanterns and set off a ton of firecrackers 🧨 to make it seem like the fire has already been set and their punishment already rendered.

The plan worked and disaster was adverted so the people lit red lanterns every year during Chinese New Year in remembrance and celebration. It is said that hanging red lanterns represent the fire 🔥 but also the luck it took to trick the god. So that’s the legend on how red lanterns came to be part of our new year decor!
