A global registered share (GRS), or a global share, is a security that is issued in the United States, registered in multiple markets around the world, and can be traded in various currencies. They are similar to ordinary shares, but the main difference lies in the fact that they can be traded on stock exchanges around the world in different currencies. However, they also come with drawbacks, including a long and difficult regulatory process for setting them up in multiple markets. Foreign companies listing securities in the U.S. face challenges such as incurring initial and ongoing costs and being subject to continual reporting requirements.
