Sharon Vaughn has spent her career developing proven ways to help struggling learners succeed in school. Through extensive studies and decades of hands-on research, she developed evidence-based strategies that help teachers improve reading comprehension and academic performance — particularly for students in middle and high school.
Vaughn is the Manuel J. Justiz Endowed Chair in Education in the College of Education at UT Austin and executive director of the Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk. She is a 2025 recipient of the President’s Research Impact Award.
The award was presented at the 2025 Celebration of Research by Interim President Jim Davis. It was established in 2023 by President Jay Hartzell to honor university researchers whose scholarly or creative work has changed lives and shaped the way we understand the world.
