Are you curious what's involved in changing a canister filter, are curious to see how well Marinelands C160 Filter is to change or are
just getting started in aquariums and are looking at all the filtering options ?

This video will show you how I change the canister and also some helpful tips and methods which i think result in a filter change
that won't harm your beneficial bacteria (much) and won't cost you much at each canister maintenance period.

My Marineland C-160 Filter uses the following products for each of the filtration stages:

Stage 1 - Course filter stage - Marineland's Course filter (bottom) S-size for C-160. - rarely have i ever changed this, i just keep cleaning it and rinsing.

Stage 2 - Carbon / Chemical stage - I use SeaPora 12" filter bags and fill them partially with Marineland's Bulk Black Carbon. The bag lasts aproximate 2-3 canister filter changes. Carbon changed every cannister filter change (i do mine every 2 months)

Stage 3 - Biological Media stage (Beneficial Bacteria stage) - Replaced Marineland's Bioballs that come with the canister in favour of Eheim's Substrate Pro media.

(This made a huge difference to the set up and increased filtering capacity by eliminating bypass and increasing surface area for beneficial bacteria).

** Note that Marineland's Bio Ceramic media would also give better filtering ability though I have not tested it myself.
