Line 6 Helix - Jerry Cantrell / Alice in Chains tone

Описание: Recent update to the Line 6 Helix firmware (2.5) added the 'Placater Dirty' amp model. This is based on the Friedman HBE 100. What an amp!! Jerry Cantrell uses a signature Friedman amp so it's no surprise that the Placater is very adept at nailing that Alice in Chains tone!! Tons of thick chunky goodness! I absolutely love it.

Facelift was an album I listened to a lot in my late teens and is probably my favourite from the Seattle rock scene of the late 80s, early 90s. Love, Hate, Love is the masterpiece on that album..... hence I've focused on that solo for this video. Also added is the solo from the song 'Dirt'.... a firm favourite of mine. Every time I go back and listen to the AIC albums I'm blown away by Jerry's tone. Just the best.

So... using the 'Placater Dirty' amp model

The 'Cantrell AIC' preset has a pitch shifter in the first stage of the signal chain. It's bypassed but if you activate it, it will drop the pitch of your guitar down a half-step. (A quick cheat if you can't be bothered retuning your guitar) The AIC stuff just doesn't sound right in standard tuning....you need to go that half step south!!

The 'chorused AIC' preset is slightly lower gain and chorus added

I'm using an OwnHammer third party IR in the presets instead of one of the Helix stock cabs. It's an IR of a 5150 III 4x12 cab. I think they sound amazing but you can put in any cab you like.

Using a Gibson Les Paul studio fitted with EMG 81/85 and a USA Charvel So-Cal with a DiMarzio Tone Zone in the bridge.
