India's Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) is facing a challenging situation as they struggle with corrosion issues at their Mumbai refinery. This has led to a rare move of importing fuel to meet demands.
The problem began when HPCL processed crude oil from Hindustan Oil Exploration Co.'s B-80 Mumbai Offshore oil field, which had high salt and chloride content, causing corrosion in the refinery's parts. As a result, the gasoline-producing unit had to be shut down, leading to reduced fuel output.
To compensate, HPCL is now seeking fuel imports through a tender, aiming to secure cargoes for early November. This situation comes at a time when Indian refiners are also navigating the complexities of U.S. sanctions on Russia, leading to a pause in new orders for Russian crude.
Stay tuned for more updates on this developing story in the energy sector.
