GATORBAK BUNK USE AND CARE
While ramp conditions can vary and will dictate the loading method required to compensate for wind, current or water level, always ensure that your bunks are wet before loading. When loading your boat, put your trailer in the water until the bunks are covered in water as much as possible, then pull your trailer forward until the bunks are just at water level. Load your boat onto the trailer until the hull rests on the bunks, then connect your winch strap and winch the boat into the stop. Be sure to secure the winch to the safety once the boat is loaded onto the bunks. As always, be sure to secure the transom of your boat to your preference.
It is important to note that power loading and loading under power are two different loading methods. As a general rule, if you’re using small amounts of throttle or idling to drive onto your trailer, this is not considered power loading. CARING FOR YOUR GATORBAK BUNK COVERS
Some break-in of the ribs is normal.
When you first begin using your new bunks, you may see areas of your bunks that will wear a little more than others. This is typical, and once the new parts and vessel have gone through a few loading cycles together, this will subside. Often times, high spots on the boards or in the bunk cradle will show these areas.
IMPORTANT: If wear or fit is not desirable, some adjustment to the bunk and/or bunk cover may be necessary. While the boat is loaded and centered on the chines where it should be, loosen the bunk assembly bolts to allow the bunks to align themselves with the hull. Gatorbak bunk covers allow you to see the true fit of your bunks to your vessel. In some cases, the bunks can be installed with spacers to allow a more precise, custom fit. Once the best fit is achieved, be sure to re-tighten all hardware to recommended torque specifications. Ensure that all loose bunks and high spots are corrected. Check bunk mounts regularly during trailer use. Caring for your new bunks is easy.
Gatorbak bunk covers are made with UV and anti-fungal protective compounds, which are designed to protect your bunks from the elements. Each time you get ready to load or unload your boat, check the bunks to ensure dirt, sand, and debris do not collect on the bunks. These should rinse away with water, but some stains or residue may need additional attention. We recommend using a marine-grade cleaning agent with a soft scrubbing pad. Long range trailering, outdoor storage, and other factors like these between loading/unloading cycles can allow build-up. Loose debris or sand left on the bunk surface could lead to minor scratching during loading and unloading procedure if not removed by the operator.
LOADING & HULL PROTECTION
Load and unload your boat with Gatorbak synthetic bunk covers.
Gatorbak bunk covers are made of a custom-blended, synthetic material designed to protect your boat’s hull during trailering. During loading and unloading, some rub-off of material may appear on the hull area. These marks can be cleaned away with a damp cloth as needed. If a stubborn mark persists, use a typical hull cleaner to remove it. Be sure to follow all manufacturer recommendations for the use of these types of products.
POWER LOADING GUIDELINES
We strongly recommend against aggressive/power loading or dry loading your craft. In many places, power loading is prohibited and can be hard on your equipment, vehicle and hull. Depending on the series of Gatorbak bunk cover, power loading could void your warranty. When loaded correctly in water, Gatorbak bunk covers are a smooth and easy loading solution.
Warranty Notes:
For Gatorbak Lift Bunk covers, and Gatorbak HD series Covers, power loading WILL void your Gatorbak warranty.
For Gatorbak XP Series covers (MID 3/19) power loading with wet bunks WILL NOT void your warranty.
Gatorbak defines power loading as aggressive throttle use. Loading under power at idle speed is acceptable and will not affect your warranty.
GENERAL LOADING TIPS
Ramp conditions vary, but here’s a reliable process:
1. Back the trailer in until bunks are fully wet.
2. Pull forward slightly so bunk tops are just above the waterline.
3. Gently drive or guide the boat onto the trailer.
4. Attach the winch strap and pull the boat into the stop.
5. Secure your transom and safety straps.
