How to get a tick off a dog that's embedded?
To safely remove an embedded tick from your dog, use a pair of fine-tipped tweezers or a specialized tick removal tool. Part your dog's fur so you have a clear view of the tick and grasp it as close to the skin's surface as possible. Pull upward with steady, even pressure, avoiding any twisting or jerking motions, as this can cause the mouthparts to break off and remain embedded. If the head does get stuck, try to remove it gently with the tweezers, but do not dig into the skin. Once the tick is removed, clean the bite area thoroughly with rubbing alcohol or an antiseptic wipe. Dispose of the live tick by placing it in a sealed container, wrapping it tightly in tape, or flushing it down the toilet. Never use petroleum jelly, a hot match, or nail polish, as these methods are ineffective and can cause the tick to regurgitate harmful bacteria into your dog's bloodstream. Monitor the bite site for infection and your dog for any signs of illness.
