A two-way switch circuit controls one light from two locations (e.g., staircases), using two SPDT switches. The live wire connects to the common terminal of Switch A, while the lamp connects to the common of Switch B. Two "traveler" wires link the L1/L2 terminals of both switches together.
Wiring Methods
There are two common ways to wire this setup depending on your region and existing infrastructure:
3-Wire Control Method (Standard)
Switch 1: The incoming Live (Phase) wire is connected to the COM terminal.
Between Switches: Two "traveller" wires connect L1 of Switch 1 to L1 of Switch 2, and L2 of Switch 1 to L2 of Switch 2.
Switch 2: The COM terminal is connected to the Live terminal of the light bulb.
Neutral: The Neutral wire from the power source goes directly to the neutral terminal of the light bulb, bypassing the switches.
2-Wire Control (Alternative/Retrofit)
In this method, both L1 and L2 terminals of the two switches are connected together. The Live wire enters the COM terminal of Switch 1, and the Switched Live to the lamp is taken from the COM terminal of Switch 2.
