Despite being the smallest national park in Bolivia, Torotoro National Park (Parque Nacional Torotoro) has a lot to offer. Torotoro is best known for its dinosaur footprints, followed by its stunning El Vergel waterfall and scenic hike. It's also home to Umajalanta Cave, Bolivia's deepest cave.
Upon arriving in the Torotoro town, visitors will notice dinosaur statues, even hotels with dinosaur decorations. There are souvenir shops in the area, so don't leave without bringing home at least a bracelet. I got a green bracelet that says Torotoro on it.
This footage (Day 1) was taken on January 3, 2026. I took a 2-day, 1-night tour (with Spanish-speaking guides) from Bolivianita Tours in Cochabamba at a promotional price of only 650 BOB (~USD94). On the contrary, it's 100 BOB cheaper for Bolivians. 650 BOB is a good price, especially for foreigners like me. The tour participants and I departed from Plaza Colón in Cochabamba at about 7 am. Our journey took about 3 hours.
We stopped somewhere for breakfast before reaching Torotoro. I had Api and pastel de queso. Lunch and dinner were provided during this tour. They were simple but lovely. For my accommodation, I chose a double room with a private bathroom in Hotel Molino. It was comfortable.
This 2-day 1-night tour covered the following activities:
DAY 1:
Circuito Vergel
El Gran Cañón y mirador
Cascadas y piscinas naturales El Vergel
Huellas de dinosaurios en cerro Huayllas
Teatro y puentes de piedra
Day 2:
Circuito Caverna Umajalanta
Caverna Umajalanta
Estalactitas y estalagmitas
Peces ciegos
Puente colgante
Huellas de dinosaurios
Circuito ITAS
Mirador Waka Pakana
Cañones pequeños
Laberintos de piedra
Pinturas rupestres
Essentials:
Rain gear
Hat
Enough water
Towel and swimwear (for the waterfall)
Extra clothes (if necessary)
Note that while some people choose to explore Torotoro cheaply on their own. I recommend taking a tour with a local guide. You can do Torotoro without paying too much. Get your tour from a local agency in Cochabamba instead of getting it online.
Tip: Having a local friend can come in handy. My friend and I secured our tour online via Facebook and WhatsApp. A local friend of mine helped us make a 300 Bolivianos (each) deposit. Thanks, Chelo!
Did I enjoy my first day in Torotoro? Yes. The day started very well, with a lot of sun and warmth. However, it began to rain as soon as everyone in the group headed back to the bus. I forgot to bring my rainwear, so by dusk, I was already soaked. Luckily, my shoes were waterproof. No wet and damped feet for me, thankfully.
If there's room for improvement, I'd say Day 1 could've been better if the pace had been slower. Although the hike was lovely, I felt like it was too fast. I would've loved to have more time enjoying my surroundings. But overall, it was an excellent trip. 🔥
