Cutting and trimming the hair do not make it grow faster. But they way the hair is cut and the type of tool used can have an impact on the length of your hair.

Trimming or Cutting:

1. Razor cutting- Is very stylish and creates fabulous cuts, but it exposes are part of the interior of the hair strand (cortex, medulla) to the elements. It weakens the hair strand which can lead to accelerated dryness and breakage.

2. Cutting with scissors is ideal but the scissors must be sharpened and they must be only used on the hair. Poor quality or unsharpened scissors can cut poorly, exposing more of the interior.

Combing heat straightened hair from root to tip creates incredible tension on the very tips or ends of the hair. Having the hair all evenly cut and proceeding to comb the hair from the root to the ears to the ends, increases hair breakage, in the form of ‘short breaks’ by 3x’s or 3 fold. In comparison, combing heat straightened hair that has been tapered, or u-shaped, minimizes breakages.

Crosscut hair is hair that has been cut even, blunt with all the hair the same length, should be combed in sections, from the ends up, to minimize short breaks. Combing this way decreases the tension on the very ends of the hair.

It’s amazing how even the type of tool you use to trim or cut the hair, the sharpness of that tool, and the way you cut and comb your hair can impact the length and health of your hair!
