Ae Fond Kiss is one of the most popular love songs by the great Scottish poet Robert ‘Rabbie’ Burns. The poem (its full title being Ae Fond Kiss and Then We Sever) is usually sung to the melody set here; the traditional Scottish tune 'Mo run an diugh mar an dé thu'. The text of the poem was inspired by
Burns’ friendship with Agnes Maclehose of Edinburgh. Burns wrote the poem for her in 1791 when she left Edinburgh to join her husband in Jamaica.
The beautiful words tell of the sadness of parting, and it is this sentiment that the player should try to communicate when performing this solo instrumental version of Ae Fond Kiss.

On September 2nd 2021 I was fortunate enough to have been allowed to visit Innerpeffray Library, near Crieff in Perthshire, Central Scotland. It was here that I recorded and filmed this performance. I am very grateful to the staff and volunteers at this magical place. I was given the privilege of viewing and handling some books of the first editions of Burns' songs from the 1770's. It was a very special day.
